Lag BaOmer at Mount Meron – Case Study

Sanitation for one of Israel's biggest mass gatherings

  • Location: Mount Meron compound and access routes
  • Attendance: About 500,000 worshippers and visitors
  • What we supplied: Hundreds of portable toilets, full logistics management, and around-the-clock servicing.

The Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai pilgrimage at Mount Meron, held every year on Lag BaOmer, is easily one of the largest, most sensitive and most complex mass events in Israel. It draws about half a million worshippers, celebrants and visitors from across Israel and around the world, all concentrated on a single mountain in a short window of time. Running an event on this scale takes uncompromising planning, comprehensive security coordination, and logistics infrastructure on a national scale.

Extreme Logistics, Built for Extreme Crowds

As part of the meticulous preparations for the event, Beresheet was selected to provide full sanitation coverage for the hundreds of thousands making their way up the mountain. The core challenge combined a massive crowd, difficult mountain terrain, and the need to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and public health.

How we handled the logistics:

  • Delivery and setup of hundreds of units: Large-scale transport and precise placement of hundreds of portable toilets at key points – from the bus parking lots and the routes up the mountain to the main bonfire-lighting compounds.
  • Advance planning, precise execution: We worked in full coordination with the Israel Police, government ministries and rescue services, deploying all equipment before the roads closed and the crowds arrived.
  • Nonstop servicing under extreme conditions: A trained field crew handled service, pumping, cleaning and maintenance around the clock throughout the pilgrimage, keeping the restrooms running safely and continuously – even at peak crowd times.

Preparing for a mass event, a religious pilgrimage or a large gathering? When the crowd is huge and the stakes are high, you need a logistics partner you can trust completely. Beresheet has the experience, the equipment and the capability to run sanitation operations at exceptionally large scale.
